Street Work -

As part of Hobart PCYC's outreach care program, Street work aims to offer assistance and support to homeless or otherwise disadvantaged youth towards being accepted as valued members of the community. It is about getting involved with young people: we have part-time workers in the CBD who offer heath and welfare information. Services include counselling and referral, crisis support, offering PCYC's activities and lifestyle advice. We assist 5-20 people each day, and make a contribution to reducing youth suicide, substance abuse, violence, crime and other anti-social behaviours. For further information and/or assistance contact the street youth worker Juanita on 0439475793 or alternatively at HPCYC on (03) 62 302246.

RecLink -

RecLink was a program initiated by Hobart PCYC to assist Hobart's youth. RecLink aims to provide sporting activities for street youth, the homeless and unemployed aged 12-25 years. We play cricket, indoor rock climbing and football, as directed and supported by the participants. Currently there are regular cricket and football rosters. This assists to offer a sense of belonging to a team and society in general through regular practise and playing games. As well as sports, there are various recreational activities: among the latest included a fishing day. We have some 3000 participants in a year, with weekly game days..

We currently have youth workers and support workers from other services. This program enhances opportunities to access services for a wide range of issues.

Quit Smoking -

Smoking kills thousands of Australian people every year. Most of them started smoking at a young age. Nicotine, an active psychotic ingredient in cigarettes, is one the most addictive substances known. The tar deposited on the lungs by tobacco smoke contains many cancer-causing substances. You are not immune from cancer. Go visit a cancer ward to see what its like - these are people just like you. If you are smoking, you are not being cool or sexy - you stink, your body's ability to function (including sexually) is being impaired, you are being played for a sucker by tobacco multinational corporations, and are heading for pain, suffering and an early grave.

Phone the Quitline 131 848. Find local Quit resources. They are not about judging you, but aim to help you to regain control over your life. Wouldn't you rather enjoy vitality in life and save the $1000 you waste on an average 2500 fags each year?*
